Something I have always wanted to be better at is taking care of myself, which includes pampering myself from time to time. Whether that means treating myself to an in home facial every week, or in this case, getting my first #mylkmani.
The rapidly trending hashtag, #mylkmani, is spreading like wildfire around the low-country because of this salon, Mylkbar. Not only does Mylkbar use all coconut milk based products, hence where the name came from, but they are the first, and only, nail & beauty studio dedicated to the pursuit of non-toxic self-care in Charleston, SC.
If that concept in itself doesn’t attract you to the brand on its own, you should see their manis…seriously. I fell in love with the Instagram-friendly salon after seeing pictures from browsing all the cute designs they had to offer on their social and website.
I made my first visit over to Mylkbar this past Sunday to try out a #mylkmani. As soon as I walked in the door, I immediately fell in love with the decor and even more so after being offered a glass of rosé by the receptionist.

I was paired with nail technician Abbey right at 5pm (I had arrived a few minutes early), but she got started on me right away. I decided to go with a ‘youfancy’ mani and a set of the Barcelona nail art in pastel colors, baby blue and pink. The whole process took about 45 minutes and I was really happy with the end results. Abbey was very precise and patient with making sure my nails looked perfect. Thank you Abbey!
What I really enjoyed the most about Mylkbar is their message, to stand behind a clean, non-toxic nail salon using only high-end, non-toxic products. They use new, disposable products on each client, ensuring a new set of files, buffs, and callus removers are not used on even two different clients for sanitary purposes.
I’m already eyeing the Istanbul nail art for my next visit. Which nail design would you choose?

How is the quality of the polish? Does it chip more or less easily, or is it about the same?

So far I’ve had the mani for 2 days and it looks as good as when I left on Sunday. I got the regular polish application but they also have the gel polish option which lasts longer than normal. But I did notice while I was there that there wasn’t any overwhelming or harsh fumes because of the products they use, which was nice.

Yes, literally ever corner of the salon was picture friendly. Hopefully they will be able to open more locations across the country in the future!
