How to Relieve Stress

La Casabloga-Meditation

As March is coming to a close and April is slowly sneaking up on us, I thought it would be appropriate to share this “Stress-Relieving” post for April, also known as Stress Awareness Month.

I, myself, have a bad habit of letting my stress build up over time. I don’t tend to show my emotions too much from the outside, but on the inside there’s always so much going on. With our busy lives, it’s nice to just take time and focus on the present when everything around us seems like chaos. Here I share with you some things that have helped me when dealing with stress:

1. Something I just recently started doing not too long ago is meditating. I take 10 minutes out of my day every morning to sit and allow my mind to breathe without any distractions. I use the App, Headspace, which is a guided 10 minute meditation that helps to clear my mind and have an open, and relaxed mindset to get me through the rest of the day.

2. I have been a gym rat for the past 10 years-not only does it help me relieve stress, but I feel great during and after the process of working out. Just the fact of doing something active and sweating is enough to have my body wanting to experience that everyday. Although I do get lazy and have my 2-3 days off during the week, this is something I definitely cannot leave out if I want to have a super productive day. My days start as early as 6:30 to check this off my daily list.

3. All I need sometimes is my favorite playlist from Spotify and some headphones. Music can literally change my mood in any situation. Even in the toughest times, like running my first half marathon, it was that much easier because I had some great tunes to jam out to the entire time.

4. I must admit. I am quite spoiled to be living in South Florida where the weather is practically 80 degrees all year round. For that exact same reason, I love to spend time outside. Whether it be at the beach, pool, etc. I always try to find an excuse to get some fresh air and this alone really helps to lift my spirits and take my mind away from any stress I may be going through at the moment.

5. I try to end every night with a quiet 30 minutes of reading. Not only does this help in making me fall asleep faster but it’s a great way to take my mind off things for awhile. In addition to that, I love writing. Even writing this post right now is a sense of self expression I take comfort in.

We all deal with stress in different ways and some people experience it a lot more than others. The important thing to do first is recognize it and do something to relieve or resolve the problem. What type of things do you tend to do to help relieve stress? Let me know in the comments below.
